How to Tell If There's a Mouse in Your House

How to Tell If There's a Mouse in Your House

You've just settled down in bed and are twenty minutes into Letterman when you hear it: a light scratching overhead, accompanied by a squeak here and a squeal there. You assume that it's the wind making strange noises (after all, it is windy tonight!), or perhaps the house is just settling (you do live in an older home, so it would make sense...). Maybe the sounds are just the result of an overactive imagination. You hope!

Of course, you just can't get around the obvious conclusion - you have company. Whether it's a bird, a bat, a squirrel, or an entire family of mice, there's something up there. Given that you've had recurrent rodent problems, the latter option is probably the safest bet.

However, how can you be sure what type of animal you're dealing with - assuming that you even have unwelcome visitors at all? Before you can evict them, you need to know who "they" are.

Above all else, your first step is to inspect your home for signs of mice. Different problems call for different solutions; if your visitors are actually squirrels instead of mice, you'll need to develop a different strategy.

When canvassing your home, keep an eye out for these seven telltale signs:

1. Droppings and urineMouse droppings resemble a grain of rice; they are approximately the same size, but are black in color. Mice will not generally travel across open spaces, so you're more likely to find droppings along walls, pipes, and beams, as well as in storage areas and next to objects. "Urine pillars" are less common; they consist of mounds of grease, urine, and dirt. You can also use a blacklight to find individual urine droppings.

2. Chew marks

Look for tooth marks and wood shavings (similar in consistency to sawdust) around doors, baseboards, and cabinets. Marks on food containers can also be a clue that you have company.

3. Grease marks

When traveling alongside pipes, beams, and walls, mice may leave greasy smear marks, as dirt and oil from their fur rubs off onto the surfaces.

4. Tracks

Footprints and tail marks on dirty, dusty, or muddy surfaces can indicate activity. If you suspect that mice have taken up residence in an otherwise impeccably clean area of your house, lay down a sprinkling of talc to catch them in the act.

5. Nests

Mice construct nests of shredded paper and similar debris; check attics, basements, garages, storage areas, closets, and other dark, enclosed places for nests or "stolen" materials.

6. Sounds

You're more likely to hear squeaks and squawks at night, when the house is quiet and your guests are active.

7. Sightings

It's not uncommon to see mice during the day; although they are largely nocturnal, they do move about in daylight.

Now that you're certain that you're dealing with mice, it's time to start strategizing. Your plan of attack will actually come in three phases: first you need to clean up the messes you found; next, you must trap and release your unwelcome visitors; and finally, you'll mouse-proof your house so they can't get back in (and wouldn't want to, even if they could!). Good luck!

Mice Problems - How to Get Rid of Mice and Keep Them From advent Back

Mice Problems - How to Get Rid of Mice and Keep Them From advent Back

Here are some tips on how to keep mice out of a house.

Don't feed them.

That may sound obvious, but think about it. Mice need food. Don't leave food out where they can get it. Clean up your crumbs. Store dry food in glass or metal containers. Store trash outdoors or in your garage in metal trash cans. Clean up any spilled grass seed or plant seeds in your garage. Don't find bird feeders near your house, because mice can be attracted to the spilled birdseed. Be aware that mice might also be attracted to bowls of pet food.

Eliminate possible nesting sites.

You've taken away their food. Now take away places they might nest. When you're thinking of how to keep mice out of a house, think about manufacture the house and the surrounding yard inhospitable to them. Eliminate piles of trash and clutter in basements, attics and garages.

Keep compost piles and woodpiles away from your house. Mice can nest in these and if so, they may move into your house when it gets cold. Using supports or pallets to keep wood off the ground can also help preclude nesting.

Seal up any openings to your house.

Mice have collapsible skeletons, so they can fit straight through very tiny openings, even openings as small as the fingernail on your pinky finger. Walk around the outside of your home and look for any openings, however tiny they may seem. Make sure you check carefully around any pipes and around air conditioner fittings.

You can seal any openings with expanding foam insulation, caulking, or pieces of metal screening or sheet metal cut to fit. You can also use steel wool to close up any holes, but be aware that it will rust and break down over time and will need to be replaced periodically.

If you do have mice problems, use traps.

Use traps for mice problems, not poison. The problem with poison is that mice can eat the poison, then crawl inside your walls to die. Then you have dead mice in your walls, which can create a horrible smell. And it's very difficult to reach the dead mice to take off them, since they are in the middle of the walls.

The old-fashioned spring traps work well, or if you prefer something more humane, you can get live traps. The mouse gets trapped unharmed inside, and you just set it free outdoors. Just make sure you issue it some length from your house. If you issue the mouse in your backyard, it's likely to come right back in.

Don't waste money on those ultrasonic pest control devices.

Have you seen these devices? They emit a high-pitched sound wave that humans can't hear but rodents can. The sound is supposed to disturb mice, rats, and other pests and keep them away. But some studies have shown they are not a very productive way how to keep mice out of a house. In one study, researchers put a expedient right next to a cage of mice. The mice ate, slept, and even bred, without seeming disturbed at all by the device.

You can call an exterminator for advice.

An exterminator can give you more advice about how to keep mice out of a house. An exterminator can also contribute you with traps and help you place the traps in the most productive areas, if you have mice problems.

How to Make a Trap

In the following paragraphs, we will try to teach you how to make a trap. Make sure, though, that you do not intend to hurt people seriously. If it is just for fun, have a go by all means!

How to make a trap is quite a simple task to accomplish. There are no complex instructions or constructions involved. Well, technically, the simplicity of how to make a trap relies on what kind you are about to create. Here, we aretalking about just booby traps. The kind that is very useful in having a good laugh out of someone.

Step # 1: how to make a trap project starts by gathering all the necessary materials. Get a string, a small piece of soft wood, a spoon, and some icky material. Jellybeans, gummy bears, washable paint, jams ... you could use just about anything really! Your kind of fun spells what you want to fall onto the person you are setting the trap for.

Mouse Traps - What Options Do I Have To Get Rid of the Mice?

Mouse Traps - What Options Do I Have To Get Rid of the Mice?

One of the biggest questions that exterminators get is about mouse traps. Most habitancy are familiar with the snap traps that have been around forever. With snap traps, mice run up to a expedient with food on it, and they are caught and die. While this might sound inhumane to tree huggers, this is a quick and painless death for many mice. There are other traps you can buy too. In my own sense in the pest control industry, I have used some separate types of traps to kill rodents.

Mouse Traps - What Options Do I Have To Get Rid of the Mice?

Mouse Traps - What Options Do I Have To Get Rid of the Mice?

Most exterminators set up all the bait stations in the attic, crawl space, and garage. Since mice usually voyage along walls, you should always place all rodent control devices along walls and along the edge of the floored areas in the attic. Do not place them in the middle of the floor anywhere in the home where habitancy can step on it. You should set the them up against the walls in the crawl space and unfinished basements.

Snap Traps

We will start with the most common snap mouse traps. These have been around forever. You simply setup them in an attic, crawl space, garage, or other secluded area, and you wait for the mice to come. Many exterminators use specially packaged attractants such as Provoke Mouse Attractant to lure the mice, but a easy spot of peanut butter will work as well.

Snap traps are great if you are trying to form out if you have mice, or if you want to know what type of mice are invading your home. If you are not sure if they are going into determined areas of the home, it is approved to set traps against walls inside the home. If you set traps in any living areas, you should be checking these traps regularly. These mouse traps will likely be used for centuries to come.

Stick-em Glue Traps

Another recipe that habitancy use to catch mice is with sticky traps. There are also sticky traps/monitors you can use to catch insects, but these are definite glue traps designed to catch mice. The glue traps catch mice on the trap, but they will not die right away. The glue traps are sometimes best used in industrial establishments when you need to slide mouse traps under equipment. They are easier to set than snap traps. With snap traps, some habitancy worry about getting their finger cut off by the trap going off on them, but this is not a problem with glue traps. Mice won't die right away on sticky traps, as they will die a slow painful death trying to get off the trap.

Rodent Baits

Rodent Bait is the most common type of traps used today. They are the most sufficient traps you can use. You basically set up the traps, the mice find the bait and eat it, and then they die some hours later. some blocks of bait can eliminate a mice infestation. I like rodent bait because you don't have to go back and check on it every day, and it will exterminate the rodents.

One drawback with using baits is the opportunity that the rodent will die in an inaccessible area and have a bad odor. If this does happen, the only quantum you have is to use an odor eliminator designed for this purpose and wait it out. Normally, the rodent decomposes sufficient to stop the odor within a merge of weeks, and you can breathe a sigh of relief. usually rodents come out into the open and die due to the consequent of the bait. This makes it much easier for disposal.

There are some types of mouse traps you can buy to exterminate the rodents in your home. To do the most sufficient extermination in your home or business, you should use a range of mouse traps.

Toys in the Early 1900s

Toys in the Early 1900s

The early 1900s were very different from today. Toys, though they have evolved in many ways, were still the delight of children everywhere. Explore the history of toys, as charted by the History website.

Toys in the Early 1900s

Theodore Roosevelt's Presidency marks the beginning of the "Teddy Bear." In the year 1902, toy bears were named "Teddy" after the president's nickname. The Teddy Bear became known world wide, and is still known and loved today. It was only a few years later when the Teddy Bears were mass produced.

Crayola crayons were made for the first time ever in 1903 by Edwin Binney and c. Harold Smith.

In 1913, an item called the Erector Set was invented. It was a steel, motorized toy that children could use to build models of just about anything. Its creator was BcGilbert, a medical doctor.

Charles Pajeau created a similar wooden set called Tinker Toys in the year 1914. Tinker Toys was made for younger children.

Raggedy Ann dolls first came on the scene after newspaper cartoonist Johnny Gruelle reproduced the doll he made for his daughter. That was in 1915.

The following year, an architect's son named John Lloyd Wright, invented Lincoln Logs, which were interlocked to make structures.

Polystyrene was invented in 1927, and it is the kind of plastic that was used for making toys in the early days.

Two years after Mickey Mouse was created (which was in 1928), stuffed Mickey Mouse dolls were made by Charlotte Clark. This was the start of Disney merchandise.

The Yo-Yo became popular in the United KingdomStates after Donald Duncan bought a yo-yo company in 1929.

Scrabble was developed from a game called Criss Cross, invented by Alfred m. Butts in 1931. It became known as Scrabble after James Brunot bought the rights from Butts, and trademarked the game with this new name. Now more than a million Scrabble games are purchased every year in North America.

In 1935, the Parker Brothers introduced Monopoly. This game is so popular today that there are many different clones of this game, many of which are just as popular.

The View-Master, a three dimensional viewer was developed by a camera enthusiast named William Gruber. The toy became popular when Gruber licensed Disney characters to make still, 3-D images from Disney movies and television programs.

Finally, in 1940,model airplanes were mass produced. They started out as a way for manufacturers to sell planes to the military, but later caught on as a toy.

The toys that we know and love today have had their roots from these ancient times. Isn't it interesting to know that if it weren't for all these creative people most of the games you know today, would never have been?

In today's contemporary era, all things sooner or later turns out to be electric. Why not the mouse trap? Snap traps have been nearby for awhile, and they in estimate will work for most mice.

electric Mouse Traps - Love Them!

But what about the smart mouse, you know your moby dick in the walls?

You hear him. He is always running out to check you out, and he sees you and stares, smelling you. He is a bit bigger, more brown than he others. He doesn't surely look afraid. He is your moby dick.

Go and get him! After all, this is your hunt. Tiny game hunting for sure, and these limited mice are pretty hard to catch.

So, after you caught some of the population, and they for sure were the dumbest of the dumb, you can be sure that you have more to challenge you. The smart ones, waited, watched, as the traps snapped, and then they ate the peanut butter, or the jelly. You have to resort to bigger and good things.

Enter into the arena the electronic pest controller! It is a marvel. If you had a opportunity to surely reward engineering brains, this would be the chance. These things work.

First, the mouse needs to get used to the goofy thing. Put it in the area, and don't turn it on. Let the dumb ones with curiosity sniff it out. Let this crazy behavior go on for a merge of days. If you had snap traps before, and you followed my old report on them, "Trapping Mice and What Works Best", you have them guessing.

They know now that traps work, and sometimes they don't. So, even though you waited on the snap traps 7 days, convert it up. This is war, and if you know the Art of War, the enemy is only as strong as the knowledge they have of you. So set it, following the directions, on the 3rd day. Those limited buggers never saw it coming!

The electronic trap comes with instructions, and basically, it can catch 10-15 mice in a night. They go into the chamber, see the bait, get a zap! and then they are disposed of for the next victim.

This works well for smarter mice, because they saw the cleavis's of the mice habitancy get the snap, and then went to chow down. They have the snap trap feel behind them.

Progressively, they will use this feel to your benefit.

Happy Hunting!

10 Storage Tips to Keep Bugs, Mice, & Ants Out of Your Unit

A little effort can go a long ways towards protecting your items while they are in storage. Anything worth paying to store is worth protecting it while it's stored. For the safety of your items, those in neighboring units and in consideration of the owner/management of the storage facility, it pays to pay attention to pest control. Here are 10 Storage Tips to Keep Bugs, Mice, & Ants Out of Your Unit.

10 Storage Tips to Keep Bugs, Mice, & Ants Out of Your Unit

10 Storage Tips to Keep Bugs, Mice, & Ants Out of Your Unit

1. Before moving furniture into storage clean it and vacuum thoroughly. Get all the crumbs, debris and stains off sofas and chairs including down in the cracks and crevices. Any "extras" left in here is a calling card for bugs and once started it affects not only your stuff but that in other units too.

2. Thoroughly clean appliances, large and small, for thesame reason. Those crumbs in the toaster, the food tray stuck on small appliances or pans invites in problems you don't want. Clean means nothing to attract bugs or mice and without food and shelter they will not stay.

3. Mothballs work well in boxes of clothing. Be careful though and use cases as they can stain clothes. Putting some in the unit, where they won't stain the contents, is a good idea however. Cedar blocks and scented sachets can be made or purchased to be tucked into boxes of clothing or household goods like towels, blankets and sheets. A good sachet can last three to four months, enough for short term storage.

4. don't be afraid to use contained insecticides -roach and ant baits can be an inexpensive thing to put in the corners as you don'tknow what others have stored in their storage sheds.

5. Use mouse and rat baits or traps with peanut butter instead of cheese. Don't use the traps if you don't check it regularly-leaving one sit in the trap doesn't catch others after the trap is sprung.

6. For additional natural deterrents look to herbs. Catnip is said to repel ants, lavender, sage repels moths repels slugs and mint can be effective against many kinds of pests. Mint and tansy are said to repel mice, although tansy can cause allergic reactions in some people.

7. Stick to canned goods and securely sealed (screw on lids) jars packed to prevent breakage if you absolutely must store food. Because it attracts pests, food is highlydiscouraged.

8. Buckets from bakeries can be used to store rice or grains. It's strongly suggested this be for a minimal amount of time in a storage unit. There are so many factors that are beyond our control that it pays to use caution. Boxed foods and plastic bags simply offer no resistance to mice and bugs, resulting in an infestation of pests that no one wants.

9. Make sure up around the top there are not holes that birds can get into. Having a bird trapped in a storage unit can be very messy and unpleasant!

Get Rid of Silverfish Naturally and Organically

Silverfish, a small half inch long insect attracted to glues in the house like book bindings or wallpaper, can cause considerable damage just like ants and termites. A major concern for many people is getting products that get rid of silverfish but are safe for pets and children to be around.

Get Rid of Silverfish Naturally and Organically

There are four common solutions of killing, getting rid of, repelling, or exterminating silverfish that are safe and natural.

The first are citrus sprays. These are citrus smelling sprays specifically made to get rid of insects like silverfish who are repelled by the smell. Use it generously where you feel the infestation may occur as well as along baseboards and the outside of the home. Do not use citrus smelling cleaning sprays as they are not organic and are not made torepel silverfish. This is an organic pest control product.

A second technique are electronic methods like ultrasonic pest control. These are small devices that are plugged into electrical outlets that let out the noises that make it uncomfortable for the insect to be in the area. Some are said to work well keeping pests away while others have complained that it does nothing if the house is completely infested.

Third, Diatomaceous Earth will kill silverfish as well as other insects and even spiders. This white powder will not dehydrate the pests. You can sprinkle this around the home where the silverfish might be as well as use it in your garden. This is definitely a method of exterminating as opposed to repelling the silverfish.

Debt Cures Book Review-Is Kevin Trudeau's Latest Book A Scam? Part 4

Kevin Trudeau, the famous and infamous infomercial king has released a new book-Debt Cures They Don't Want You to Know About. This article will finish off my 4 part series reviewing Kevin's book and help you decide if you should spend your money on anything he has to sell.

Debt Cures Book Review-Is Kevin Trudeau's Latest Book A Scam? Part 4

This article will answer all the questions about the free money from the government, the $ 10,000 in 24 hours, etc. that many people have asked about. Let's get started.

Last time, I left off on chapter 21. Chapter 21 is called Rebuilding Credit. This chapter offers several tips and options available to you to rebuild your bad credit. The first method he talks about is piggybacking. The basic idea of piggybacking is someone with a good credit score adds you as an authorized user to their accountand their good credit history gets reflected on your credit report boosting your score. Unfortunately FICO has decided that they will not allow this method to affect your credit score anymore. This hurts kids on their parent's credit cards in addition to people looking to boost their credit score for a major purchase.

KT offers tips to rebuild your credit involves getting a co-signer on a loan, taking out and installment loan, and getting a secured credit card. He has a few tips for college students who are a favorite target of the credit card companies.

Chapter 22-Building more wealth.

Here, we get a better idea of what Trudeau means by building wealth. "Every step you take to reduce or eliminate your debt is a step towards building wealth." I would have to agree. The idea is a penny saved is a penny earned. It is not new but it makes a lot of sense. The less you pay to the credit card companies, the more you have to save for more important things. It is hard to save or invest for your retirement if all you're worried about is paying off your credit card debt.

Kevin talks about the differences between investing in depreciable assets-cars, TVs, clothes-and assets that increase in value over time-real estate, stocks, bonds, art, etc.

He mentions starting a corporation for your new business to get access to large credit lines and to leverage that credit line into good appreciating assets. Since this is a book about "Debt Cures," the specifics about how to do this are not covered.

"How to get $ 10,000 in 24 hours"

This isa question several people have asked. The answer is-BORROW IT. He tells you about all the options you have for borrowing or finding money-home equity loan, friends, family, etc. Borrowing from friends and family is cheaper in terms of costs but it does have its other potential downsides so be careful. He also mentions searching unclaimed funds, he says it is one source that many people have found money.

Trudeau finishes the chapter off with some good business tips and making money with your own business as an entrepreneur. The main point is to find out what the demand is than fill it, not the other way around. So instead of building a better mouse trap, find out what the market wants first and then give it to them.

Chapter 23-Free Money!

KT talksabout all the sources of free money from the government and private organizations you can get. Grants.gov is one of his first sites he recommends. You have to take the time to fill out the application forms and make the phone calls to get the money. He also talks about getting money from the Small Business Administration (SBA). Over 1 million people each year get free money and cheap loans from the government. Put in the legwork and you could get some. Many of the grant programs have to be used for a specific purpose not just to do with as you please.

One program that I found interesting was the Individual Development Account program. It's like a 401K where the government and a private group will match dollar for dollar your savings up to a certain amount. You put in a dollar andthey put in a dollar each-so you've tripled your savings just like that. The money can be used to buy a house, go to school, or start a business. Federal Tax Refunds
How you file your taxes, via either U.S. Mail or electronic filing, dictates how long it normally takes to receive a refund. Filing a return straight through the mail is, of course, the slower of the two processes. For those who mail their federal return, the Irs will remit a tax reimbursement within six weeks after they have been received the completed return. If you file electronically, you should receive your tax reimbursement within three weeks.

The Irs allows two options for receiving a federal tax refund: paper check sent via the mail, or an electronic funds replacement (also called a direct deposit). The direct deposit method, not surprisingly, is always the quicker option. The Federal 1040 form contains a section where consumers can opt for a direct deposit. If you want the Irs to electronically deposit your reimbursement into more than one account you will need to file a cut off form 8888.

How to Check on Your Federal Tax Refund
For whatever wanting to check the status of their tax refund, plainly go to the Irs's Where's my refund (irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=96596,00.html) webpage where you'll find an easy to use tool to request the information. If you would rather check the reimbursement status by phone, you may call 1-800-829-1954. The Irs asks that you wait 3 days after filing electronically, or 3 weeks after mailing a return before checking for a status update. For those who file an amended return, however, the period to receive a reimbursement check will take 8-12 weeks.

Tips on Ensuring a Quick Refund
By eliminating mistakes, consumers can ensure that their reimbursement is received in as timely a fashion as possible. The most coarse mistakes, which can cause delays in receiving a refund, are listed below:
Social security whole missing or incorrect Incorrect tax result, given reported earnings and filing status, was entered Mathematical errors in figuring the taxable income, withholding and estimated tax payments, Earned earnings Credit, acceptable Deduction for age 65 or over or blind, the taxable whole of communal security benefits, and child and dependent care credit Items entered on incorrect line, especially estimated tax and withholding General Math Errors State Tax reimbursement Process
As you might expect, each state has its own exact agencies and rules that govern taxation processes. Many states have a group of earnings that deals with tax filings and returns, for other states it may be the Tax Commission, group of Taxation, or some other similar named department.

To check status on a state tax refund, find the state taxation group for your singular state (by going here aicpa.org/yellow/yptsgus.htm) and go their website. Most state agencies, like the Irs, supply tools or resources for consumers to check on tax reimbursement status.

Tips On Maximizing The Effectivity Of Mouse Traps

Tips On Maximizing The Effectivity Of Mouse Traps

In the United States alone, the estimated damage that mice can incur annually is 1 Billion. This figure is not actually the total economic loss due to the amount of their consumption. But largely due to the things that must be put to garbage after the damage and contamination that they have done. Clothing, books, foods and the likes are contaminated by their droppings and urines and also be partially due to gnawing. Gnawing may cause electrical short short-circuiting logical evaluations as well impairment of some household items.

These are reasons enough why there is a great need to exterminate the species. To further prove the point, mice are also known to cause some diseases such as "leptospirosis, rat fever, salmonelossis and others.

Mice are nocturnal in nature, this is why they are seldomseen roaming the household. The only obvious signs that they are present are their droppings and occasional sounds that they make. Another indication is damage to stored materials, food and other household items. The species is known for their curiosity. With this they seem to have created a habit of inspecting everything in their territory specially the new items.

Their habit of searching food is limited only for shorter distances, around 10 feet or so. If the supply of food is enough in a specific place, they normally don't explore beyond their territories. This is why mouse traps are often effective in eliminating the number of mouse population in certain areas.

There are several types of mouse traps. But whichever version you maychoose, it is best to maximize the benefits of each.

Mouse trap placement is essential. It would be better to observe first the activities and signs of presence of the house pests before doing appropriate actions. The most ideal position of the mouse trap is to place them perpendicular to walls, to snug places, along the tubes, tunnels and walls.

Some of the best baits for mice are the chocolate and water for live catch but the staples are cheese and peanut butter. It is also best to make use of cotton and other nesting materials.

It is advisable to use as many mice traps as possible to increase rate of catch.

In some cases, mouse traps don't work efficiently. This is mainly because the culprits for the loss of thebait are not mice at all. They may often be other pests like roaches, ants and crickets. To ensure better effectivity of catching mice, assure yourself that you are catching mice. You may seek help by using non-repellant materials to expose anything that may point you to the real culprit.

Additionally, be sure that you are using the proper mouse trap. Rattraps don't effectively capture mice and mouse traps will only cause irritation to rats. if you have a mixed population in your household, you may choose to use T-Rex. This will capture rats as well as mice.

Check on your baits. The ultimate and most effective mouse trap bait is the one which effectively lures mice and does not easily detach from the mouse trap. You may try different settings and find which works best for your situation.

To further yield better results, expert rodent exterminators often advise the use of more mouse traps containing smaller baits rather than larger amounts of baits for fewer mouse traps.

Homemade Sparrow Trap-How to Make Homemade Sparrow Trap

Homemade Sparrow Trap-How to Make Homemade Sparrow Trap

Look out your window, go for a stroll in the park or in the streets of your town "and I dare to bet you'll see these little birds flying around. You will find these creatures on every country on this earth except in Antarctica. At a glance, these birds may look harmless and rather adorable, but what may not be known to so many is this, these birds are in fact very destructive an a threat to a country's native birds. Take for example the bluebird in North America, what was once a species so many in the sky has declined to an alarming number all thanks to sparrows. These birds tend to survive at a higher rate as compared to other birds and will fight for their survival just to live. Besides being a threat, these birds carry diseases and bacteria allowing them to be given the label"pests with wings". With enough reason to support the suggestion to rid our towns of these sparrows, let us take a look at this guide on how to make a homemade sparrow trap.

The first step is to get some plywood about half an inch thick and cut it with a saw to follow the dimensions 18 "x 10" x 5 "as this will be the frame for the trap. Get a plastic jug and make sure it's able to fit in the frame, 5 "width if not; you can always cut the jug to make it fit. After this, get some light wood like white pine and make sure it's in the dimensions 12 "Long, one and a quarter inch wide and 3/8 inches thick. Drill two 1/16 inch holes on one end of the wood and a single hole on the latter side. The two holes will be for the plastic jug and the side with the single hole willbe for the 35 mm film canister. The following step is to drill two 1/8 inch holes in the center of the plastic jug and screw it on, do the same with one drilled hole in the center of the film canister. Set two nails on the sides of the board then prepare a 10 inch square sheet of aluminum and drill two holes to make sure it flits the nails. Drill another hole on the bottom and place some washers on the arm, this goes into the trap itself.

Get the frame mentioned just now and drill a hole in the bracket, then place the washer there. Make sure the balance beam is in place and to make the door, cut the wood with the dimensions 18 "x 10", insert the washer and wing nut in there. Use some hinges to set the door in place on the trap. Get a board of similar size for theback part. Make a down chute by using a PVC tube with a 4 inch diameter, and then make a 1/2 hole in the trap to fit the tube.

These steps are no doubt quite a task to follow, so do make sure you know a little bit about carpentry or at least to ask someone to guide you especially the steps you're not familiar with. It may seem a little harsh and inhumane to trap these birds, but for the sake of your health, our surroundings and our native birds (especially those low in numbers), take some time out to think of how they're a bother and how making this homemade sparrow trap can help.

Mothballs are other handy insect operate expedient for the garden. You've probably heard of using mothballs in the closet to safe your sweaters, but you can also use them to kill bugs on potted plants. Simply place the plant in a clear plastic bag (i.e. A cleaning bag), add a few mothballs, and seal the bag for a week. When you take the plant out, it will be bug-free (and moths will stay away for a while too). Animals also hate the smell of mothballs, so you can toss a few into your organery and flowerbed as well, to keep away cats, dogs, and rodents.

Did you know onions are a natural pesticide as well? Here's an easy-to-make concoction that will repel insects (and animals too) in your flowers and vegetables: Use a blender to puree 4 onions, 2 cloves of garlic, 2 tablespoons of cayenne pepper, and one quart of water. Put the mixture aside and then dilute 2 tablespoons of soap flakes in 2 gallons of water. Pour all the contents in your blender, stir it up, and this gives you an eco-friendly bug spray to use on your plants.

Black pepper is other home remedy that works great for pest operate in the garden. If insects are harassing your flowers, plants, and vegetables, Simply mix pepper with flour and sprinkle it colse to your plants. Bugs won't be so eager to munch.

Lastly, you can make your own rock dust to get rid of insects in the garden.

Insect operate in the House

Dog and cat food, which is often left out colse to the clock, can be quite a temptation to ants and other insects. A uncomplicated way to make these six-legged intruders lose interest is to place a border of baking soda colse to the pet food bowls. Baking soda won't bother your pets (though they probably won't be keen on the taste), so it's no worry for them if they lap a bit up with their meal.

Another household item good at getting rid of insects is vinegar. For example, if your latest trip to the farmers' store brought back fruit flies as well as salutary victuals, then you can make traps for the flies by filling an old jar about halfway full with apple cider vinegar. Punch a few holes in the top, screw it back on, and the fruit flies will be attracted and trapped.

These are just a few of the easy ways to use uncomplicated household items to get rid of insects. So when you're having a problem, don't be so eager to pick up a can of chemical-filled bug spray. Look for natural solutions, and you will very likely find them!

Ingrown Hair-Seven & Eight Causes Effects

Ingrown hair is a common problem for men and women. Use this list to easily identify the causes and effects of ingrown hair so you can make an educated decision on how to deal with this painful problem.

Ingrown Hair-Seven & Eight Causes Effects

Ingrown Hair-Seven & Eight Causes Effects

7 CAUSES

Skin suffering from lack of moisture Stiff beard hair Embedded oil in the hair follicles Build up of dead skin cells in the pores and on the surface of the skin can cause ingrown hairs-some are more prone to this than others due to Coarse curly hair growing genetics in a curved hair follicle Improper shaving technique with a blade such as too close a shave Hair removal methods such as shaving, waxing, tweezing, electrolysis, often irritate hair follicle. Dead cells can accumulate at the site of the irritation and form papules which canalso contain pus while the skin heals. While this process continues any hair in the area can get trapped under the formation and is prevented from exiting the skin properly. Ingrown hair is the result.
8 EFFECTS

Constant tenderness Trapped hairs cause inflammation which result in the body forming papules-a small, raised, abnormality on the skin commonly known as a bump giving rise to the term ' razor bumps ' The body can also respond by producing a pustule-a blister on the skin containing pus An infected pustule can become ruptured resulting in bleeding Itching Tingling Pain-mild or severe Hard, prominent, irregular scar tissue in the skin in chronic cases
Additional Advice: If you carry out skin exfoliation regularly with a loofah or meshafter waxing or shaving sponge, you'll take off the thin layer of skin that's trapping the hairs and set them free.

Wet the loofah and squeeze to soften if preferred, then gently massage the skin, especially dry, rough areas.

Do not use the loofah on broken skin. Some beauty advisors believe using a loofah once a week for skin exfoliation is enough to keep the area exfoliated. Exfoliating too much will dry the skin and leave it sensitive and susceptible to ingrown hair.

How to Deal With the Smell of Dead Mice

How to Deal With the Smell of Dead Mice

So you're one of those unfortunate few whose humble abode has been affected by the smell of dead mice. It's a hideous smell that seems like it will never go away. How could something so horrible ever fade away as a distant memory?  You might even be mental of lively to a hotel!!  I can't say that I blame you, but there is hope.

How to Deal With the Smell of Dead Mice

How to Deal With the Smell of Dead Mice

I'm sure you've tried everything under the son to get rid of the stench. How many candles have you lit?  Where's the potpourri?  If that's your idea of dealing with the smell, it's not going to work.  This will merely mask it, and I'm guessing if you're reading this... It probably didn't work so well.

How do you deal with this problem? This may seem obvious, but you have to get rid of the dead mouse. I'm not saying that to be funny either.  As long as there is decay, it will stink.  Easy as that. Even after handling the dead mouse, you may still be left with a smell because your furniture, carpet, walls, anything absorbed the pungent odor.  Don't buy something to mask the smell, eliminate it.

What happens if you can't find the dead mouse?  Hate to say it, but you're going to have to outlast it.  When the mouse is completely dried out, the stench will at last fade.  Depending on the rate of decay though, this can take weeks, maybe even months.  Again, don't try to mask the smell.  Get an odor eliminator.  What sets the two apart is that an odor eliminator will bond with the smell and neutralize it before it reaches your nose, whereas a perfume plainly mixes with the odor... At that point who knows which is worse?  Dying mouse or dying mouse with ridiculously over done perfume?

In conclusion, it's two straightforward steps.  take off the source.  Eliminate (not mask) the odor.

How to Write an Introduction-5 Steps to Help You

How to Write an Introduction-5 Steps to Help You

Whether you are writing an essay for school, an article for the web, or a professional report, you must start with a good introduction.  Why?  Think about your own experience as a reader.  If the first two to three sentences do not catch your attention, will you continue to read on?  It's unlikely!  Without a strong introduction, you will turn the page to the next article, or surf to the next site, or pick up the next proposal.  Therefore, if you want your writing to do its job, you must start with a strong introduction.  Here are five steps to help you do it.

How to Write an Introduction-5 Steps to Help You

How to Write an Introduction-5 Steps to Help You

How to Write an Introduction-5 Steps to Help You

How to Write an Introduction-5 Steps to Help You

How to Write an Introduction-5 Steps to Help You

1. don't neglect the pre-writing process.

Pre-writing should take up most of your time as a writer, unless you have a great deal of experience in what you'rewriting about (and even then, your writing will be much stronger if you go through the pre-writing process).  Pre-writing begins with research, research, research.  You want to research more than you think you need to, and then after you think you've definitely researched enough, just a little bit more.  After researching comes the steps of forming a general thesis, then a general outline, then your first draft.  There's much more to be said pre-writing, but for now, stick to those four steps: research, thesis, outline, draft.  As you will see below, you cannot write an introduction without a thesis, and you cannot write an introduction without knowing where your report will go after your thesis.  My advice?  Write your introduction deadlast!

2. Your thesis is the star of the show.

If your report were a debutante ball, all the effort that goes into arranging the party would be the pre-writing process; the environment, music, attendees, fruit punch, and so forth would be the body of your report; but the debutant herself would be your thesis.  She may be only one person amongst hundreds of other guests, but all the other guests are there for her--she's the star of the show.  The job of your introductory paragraph or introductory section is to introduce your thesis.  Therefore, your whole introduction should build up to your thesis.

No matter what your thesis is, your introduction needs to perform certain tasks, which are now listed below.

3. Present a problem, then solve it with your thesis.

For example, if you are writing about the new and improved mousand traps you have invented and want to sell, your thesis might be, "My mousetrap is better than all the existing mousetraps on the market today."  Your introduction, then, needs to begin by stating that there is a problem with existing mousetraps.

So your first sentence might be,

"No one likes to have mice in their house, but unfortunately most do not effectively remove mousetraps mice" (the problem).

If the first sentence or paragraph in your introduction presents a problem, the next few sentences should begin to guide the reader into solving the problem.  Continuing with the mousetrap example, your next few sentences might be,

"In atraditional mousetrap, mice frequently eat the cheese without getting caught. "  (This is what's wrong with existing traps.)  "My mousetrap contains cheese inside a trapdoor, which the mouse automatically triggers upon andntering the trap.  The mouse is then caught inside, along with the cheese. " (Wow, your mousetrap sounds like an improvement!)  "Therefore, my mousetrap is better than all the existing mousetraps on the market today."

5. Once you've stated your thesis, tell your reader what else they will learn when they read your report.

Do you remember learning the five paragraph essay in high school?  There were some parts of this cookie-cutter writing format that were horrendous, and ought never to havebeen taught to poor, unsuspecting high school students.  However, there are parts of this writing method that are useful, and which I still use today.  One of those is: tell your reader what you are going to say, say it, and tell them you said it.  Now, in some writing philosophies, you tell your reader what your report is about before you get to the thesis, and your thesis is the very last sentence of your introduction.  Personally I do not like this method.  I prefer to state my thesis, and then give my readers a reason to read the rest of the report.  Using the mousetrap example again, after stating the thesis, you could go on to tell the reader how you will prove that your mousetrap is the best in a second introductory paragraph:

"First, I willexamine the three top-selling mousetraps on the market and their significant flaws.  Then, I will explain the research and development process for my mousetrap.  Finally, I will present two case studies of businesses that have successfully implemented my mousetraps. "

I think readers appreciate what they are getting into--don't you?

A well-written introduction will propel your reader into the rest of your article or report.  No matter how important the information in your report is, it won't matter very much if no one reads it!  So do your writing a favor: follow the five steps above and write a clear, compelling introduction for every article, essay, and report you write.

Before you implement a mouse or rat control program, it's all the time best to know the signs of a rodent infestation. Looking a mouse or rat run straight through your garbage is an confident sign, but more telling signs you have a mouse or rat issue are rub marks along walls, strong urine odors, gnawing and droppings.

What to use for bait it also key. Most citizen believe cheese to be the best, but unless you're trying to catch Jerry, use peanut butter on mouse traps; Fig Newton's work great too. Using raw hickory smoked bacon has proven to work great for rats.

Below you'll find the best traps to kill and get rid of mice and or rats. Using traps, if positioned and used correctly, is the best form of mouse and rat control, especially if you have animals and or children.

1. Paper and Tray Glue boards - This is, hands down, the easiest and safest mouse and rat trap. Especially if you have children and pets. Just place these traps along a wall or in a angle until a mouse or rat comes along.
2. Mouse / Rat Snap Traps - There are many types of snap traps on the market, but the most tasteless are the basic pull back and set style, and the all so popular, and very sufficient extensive trigger versions. The wider trigger paddle increases the catch rate immensely.
3. Auto Set Snap traps - These are great for the citizen who are deathly afraid of setting the approved snap traps. The easy quick set mechanisms make this trap ideal for the novice mouse hunter.
4. Bait stations with T-Rex - Basically a black box with a trap inside. Mice and rats never see it coming. The most popular bait box / middle point trap blend is made by Protecta with a T-Rex trap. The bait box acts as harborage and safe haven for mice and rats, and this style of trap plays a safety role when children and pets are present.
5. Tin cat - This trap acts as a monitor / mouse trap that uses the peel off mouse glue board by Catchmaster. Widely used in used food packing plants and stores, but can certainly be used in your home. Tin cats are enclosed which helps you to avoid have the rodent being stuck to an exposed glue board.
6. Ketch-All wind up - A wind up multi catch trap that doesn't kill, at least most of the time. Mice crawl into an occasion and the spinning paddle swoops them into a retention cell.
7. Live trap - A lot like the Ketch-All, a live trap is a lot smaller version of approved live cat and dog traps. A Fig Newton or peanut butter in the back behind the trigger plate does the trick every time.
8. Cube Tilt Trap - A cube trap is a gravity trap with a door on one end. When the mouse enters, the cube tilts causing the door to close. Peanut butter at the back of the tube works great.
9. Electric Trap - This trap speaks for itself.
10. Homemade - This is for the guy who wants to make a better mouse / rat trap, or wants to try something different. The most tasteless is the 5 gallon bucket and soda can with wire stretched across the top. Don't forget to place the board on the lip of the bucket (Aka plank), before you send the local mice and rat populations to their death.

How to Get Rid of Rats in the Attic

How to Get Rid of Rats in the Attic

Few things evoke more fear and panic than does the sight of a rat running across your kitchen floor. People also get about the same reaction when you tell them the noises they have been hearing in their attic are rats chewing on their electrical wiring and air conditioning drain lines.

After the fear subsides people usually get mad, then the questions start.

WHY ARE THEY IN MY HOUSE? This one is easy. They are looking for a place to live. They occasionally come in because it is cold outside but usually it is because they want to live near their food supply. Which is usually a bird feeders (yours or your neighbor yards) or someone feeding their pets outside.

HOW DO THEY GET IN? This one is a little tougher. A rodent can squeeze through an opening as large asit's head. For a mouse, this is a hole about the size of a dime and for a rat it is a hole about the size of a quarter. So, how do you "rodent proof ' building.
* seal around plumbing & air conditioning pipes
* replace torn roof overhangs vents
* install rodent covers over dryer, bath and kitchen wall vents
* screen brick weep holes
* repair holes in tile ceiling and eaves

A successful exclusion service closes up any opening that is a half inch or larger in size.

How do you get rid of them? You have to poison them, kill them with traps or you can catch mice in live traps.

Is there going to be a smell? This question is usually asked with a little panic in the voice and the answer is somewhere between "maybe to probably" if poisons are used. Most baits are anticoagulants and start dying when the rodents they want to go home, and home to them if often in your walls or under your attic insulation.

How do you get the smell out? To eliminate the smell you have to remove the carcass, kill the bacteria causing the smell or mask the odor. If the carcass is visible and accessible remove it. If you can see the carcass but can not get to it, use the Enzymes to kill the odor-causing bacteria. If you can't do either of these, you can try masking the smell but, this is a little like using perfume to cover up bad B.O. It helps but you know the stink is still there.

How do you get rid of rats without a smell problem? Use kill traps and/or live catch traps (for mice). A good thing about using traps is theykill and holds the animal for disposal. But, if they are trap shy you have to use baits.

Other than being a little scary can rats hurt people? Yes, directly and indirectly through the fleas and ticks they carry.
Allergy reaction to rodent hair is now recognized as a significant problem in schools. A single pair of rats will shed upwards of 25 million hairs per year.
Lymphocytic Chroniomeningitis Virus is carried in the urine and feces of mice and can cause birth defects in newborn infants.
Hantavirus, mouse related disease, is frequently lethal and transmitted to people when the feces or urine is inhaled or ingested.
Lyme Disease is transmitted to people and pest from ticks.
In Denmark, 100% study of mice showed evidence of the infection byLyme Disease organisms. Lyme Disease was once thought of as a disease found only in the upper regions of the U.S. but has now been shown to be in epidemic numbers in Texas.

Anyway you look at it, rodents are an emotional and dangerous problem. Most commercial accounts and many residential customers have taken pro-active steps to eliminate the problem before they get rats. They get regular inspections, rodent exclusion have done and install bait stations when and where activity is found or suspected.

You can take major steps and set out poison, but that has its drawbacks.

You can try and trap them, but that has its drawbacks too.

Or, you can try and repel them with easy things found nearby your house.

People have found all types of things that can be used for repelling squirrels, but as with all things - some work for some habitancy and not for others.

Take for instance - mothballs. They used to be the amount one option to repel squirrels. Some habitancy still swear by them, but the consensus now is that moth balls are actually useless.

So what can you use?

A survey of the net found the following 13 home remedies that habitancy have used to repel squirrels.
Nutmeg and cinnamon Peppermint oil Capacin Jalapeño peppers (mashed in blender) Serrano peppers (mashed in blender) Cayenne pepper Chili powder Tabasco sauce Wd-40 Aspirins and peanut butter (crush 100 aspirins and mix with peanut butter) Dog hair clumps Hair clippings Used cat litter (placed nearby plants)
Some of these items you would place nearby your plants. Things like chili powder, cayenne pepper and similar things can be mixed with bird seed. Believe it or not, these hot spices don't bother birds but their uncontrollable squirrel pals can't stand it.

If one home remedy does not work, try another. As said earlier, some habitancy have more success with some than others.

As a last resort, there are industrial repellents which you can buy at your local hardware store. These obviously will cost more but are a stronger repellent and may have a best effect.

How Do I Get Rid of Mice in Our RV?

How Do I Get Rid of Mice in Our RV?

I am by no means an expert on pest and rodent control, but after
researching the subject I can offer a few ideas that seem to
work for other RVers ... ....

How Do I Get Rid of Mice in Our RV?

The first and most important step is to try and prevent mice
from being able to access you RV. This can be difficult because
they can enter the RV through some very small areas. Start by
inspecting the underside of your RV for any gaps or holes. Fill
these gaps using silicone or expanding foam. A word of caution,
if you never used expanding foam before you should experiment
with it on something other than your RV first. When it dries it
can expand a great deal more than you expect.

Next, open drawers and cabinet doors inside your RV. Look in all
of the corners andcrevices, especially where plumbing and
wiring enter the RV. If you can see any daylight mice can get
in. Again, fill these areas with silicone or foam.

Mice also enter through vents like the furnace. You can purchase
wire mesh type covers from your RV dealer that can be installed
over these vents. Many RVers suggest you some type of spray
insect spray (that contains mint oils) around the wheel to
discourage mice. The only problem with this is you would need to
do it every couple days. I don't recommend any type of poison.
It can take several days for the poison to work and the mice
will usually die somewhere that you can't find them. If this
happens you may never get rid of the smell.

Other RVers recommend using mothballsthroughout the RV and in
storage compartments, if you don't mind the smell of mothballs.
The alternative to mothballs is dryer sheets, like Bounce.
People swear they work and the smell is much more pleasant. If
you are close to where your RV is being stored you may want to
use conventional mouse traps and check for mice every few days.
The only problem with traps is the bait can actually attract
mice. Of course you will want to remove any food from the RV
that can also attract mice.

Happy Camping,

Mark
